Nutanix and Supermicro Partner on Private AI Inference

โฑ๏ธ 3 min read

Nutanix and Supermicro have announced plans for a jointly engineered AI infrastructure solution powered by Nutanix Agentic AI. The partnership is designed to help enterprises deploy systems for private inference and manage the rising costs associated with artificial intelligence workloads.

The solution will combine the Nutanix Cloud Platform with validated Supermicro servers, NVIDIA GPUs, and NVIDIA Spectrum-X networking. According to the companies, the integrated setup aims to reduce custom configuration complexity and simplify the transition from infrastructure deployment to production-ready AI.

Nutanix stated the full-stack AI platform will enable provisioning from bare metal to model-as-a-service delivery, utilizing a secure Agent Gateway via the Cloud Native Computing Foundation-certified Nutanix Kubernetes Platform and Nutanix Enterprise AI. The infrastructure will be supported by Nutanix Unified Storage (NUS), which provides NVIDIA Enterprise-certified storage for workloads requiring context caching and model serving.

The architecture is designed to scale GPU capacity while utilizing a dedicated control plane and storage services to support resilient operations and high-throughput data workflows.

“Collaborating with Nutanix, we want to accelerate time-to-online for enterprise AI,” said Matthew Thauberger, Chief Revenue Officer, Supermicro. “Combining Supermicroโ€™s engineered servers with Nutanixโ€™s full-stack software will deliver a pre-validated, rack-scale solution that bypasses traditional lead-time delays.”

Thomas Cornely, Executive Vice President of Product Management at Nutanix, added that the collaboration addresses the infrastructure complexity and procurement delays that often hinder enterprises from moving AI from experimentation into production.

โ€œOur expanded collaboration with Supermicro is designed to simplify the deployment and management of private AI infrastructure, giving enterprises greater control over their data, security and AI operating costs. By combining validated server systems with Nutanixโ€™s full-stack AI software, we aim to help organisations across the region scale AI workloads more efficiently, reduce deployment complexity and build a more predictable foundation for long-term AI adoption,โ€ said Sush Kajaria, EMEA Alliance Sales Director, Nutanix.

Supermicro and Nutanix AI Infrastructure Key Specs

The engineered solution is intended to provide a hardware foundation using Supermicro server systems housing eight NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs per node.

  • Management Control Plane: The setup is expected to feature a dedicated, resilient Nutanix management cluster (NX-8170-G10) designed to protect against management plane failure without disrupting GPU execution.
  • Storage Scaling: An integrated NUS cluster (NX-8150-G10) is optimized for high-bandwidth I/O requirements across AI data ingestion, checkpointing, and cache warming.
  • Networking: The system utilizes NVIDIA Spectrum-X Ethernet networking, combining NVIDIA Spectrum-4 switches (SN5610/SN5600) with ConnectX-7/8 SuperNICs for scale-out connectivity, alongside BlueField-3 DPUs for infrastructure offloading.

“The AI imperative is shifting from simply building raw compute capacity to optimizing the cost and efficiency of every inference delivered,” noted Matt Kimball, Vice President & Principal Analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, regarding the market shift toward managing hardware and model orchestration as a unified system.

Availability

The Supermicro systems powered by Nutanix Agentic AI are scheduled to be available in early 2027 through Supermicro and its channel partners.
