IWD 2025: Nikita Kandath, Regional Marketing Manager, CommScope

Nikita Kandath, Regional Marketing Manager, EMEA, Emerging Markets at CommScope highlights the pressing need to maintain momentum toward gender equality

Nikita Kandath: The theme for International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, “Accelerate Action,” highlights the pressing need to maintain momentum toward gender equality, particularly in the workplace. While progress has been made in some areas, the focus on accelerating action stresses the importance of taking swift, purposeful steps to break down barriers and cultivate a truly inclusive and diverse environment for all genders, ethnicities, and backgrounds.

I believe we can truly achieve diversity and inclusion in the workplace through:

    • Active Leadership engagement: Leaders must drive initiatives, set diversity goals, and hold themselves accountable.
    • Creating an inclusive culture: It is imperative to create an environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and respected.
    • Taking accountability on reforming existing policies: Ensure equal pay, flexible work options, and bias-free hiring practices.
    • Continue adopting Diverse Hiring: Focus on skills and potential, diversifying hiring panels, and supporting underrepresented talent.
    • Promote Continuous Learning: Offer regular training to address unconscious bias and promote inclusion.

Nikita Kandath: I began my career in marketing across various industries, but I never felt the drive to advance further within those sectors. Throughout my journey, I’ve always been deeply fascinated by the tech industry, particularly due to its dynamic nature and the constant evolution of trends and opportunities. What truly inspired me to transition into tech was the possibility of promoting innovative solutions that have the potential to make a tangible impact on people’s lives.

The tech industry offers an unparalleled sense of opportunity—its ever-changing landscape provides endless room for learning and growth. What excites me most is the rapid pace of change, which continually presents fresh challenges and chances to innovate. The blend of constant learning and the ability to contribute to meaningful projects has kept me both inspired and motivated on this path.

In essence, my transition into tech was fueled by a mix of curiosity, a passion for problem-solving, and a desire to contribute meaningfully through technology. I’m eager to continue growing and making impactful contributions in this dynamic field.

Nikita Kandath: I have been fortunate to have many silent mentors throughout my life, starting with my family—my mother, father, and brother—who have always been a source of guidance and support. Over the years, I’ve also had the privilege of working with remarkable bosses who continue to champion my success and encourage me to push beyond my limits.

If I were to name a professional mentor, I deeply admire Indra Nooyi, the former CEO of PepsiCo. She is an incredible role model, especially for women in business and leadership. Nooyi’s journey is nothing short of inspiring, as she broke through barriers in a male-dominated industry as a woman of color. What resonates most with me about her leadership style is her ability to blend empathy, humanity, and innovation, while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability. She exemplifies the kind of leader I strive to be.

    • Dinner with a famous personality, who would it be? Michelle Obama. It will be so exciting to hear about her journey, the impact and future plans 🙂
    • One skill you wish you could learn instantly? Coding!
    • Android or Apple? 😃 This is a tough one but I think I’ll be cliched and say Apple.
    • WhatsApp or Telegram? WhatsApp all the way!
    • Phone call or text message/email? Phone call (I am old school 😊)
    • Beaches or Mountains? Mountains!
    • Coffee or Tea? Tea (nothing can’t be resolved over tea 😊)
    • Early Bird or Night owl? Night owl
    • Books or Movies? Books
    • Winter or Summer? Winter…I enjoy snow
    • Online shopping or in-store shopping? In-store shopping. Again old school lol

Nikita Kandath: For women just starting their careers, it’s essential to believe in yourself from the very beginning and continuously upskill to ensure your career growth. You need to actively market yourself within your role to get noticed—be vocal about your achievements and contributions. Whether inside or outside the company, make sure people are aware of the work you’re doing, including your accomplishments. This will help you stay top-of-mind with management and ensure you’re remembered when new opportunities arise. Hard work is crucial, but it’s equally important to be bold and ensure your voice is heard.

While dedication is key, there are other critical factors that help you make a mark in your industry. Stay current by researching market trends and emerging technologies both professionally and personally. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, speak up when needed, and self-promote when appropriate.

Finally, celebrate every small win along the way! Career success is often the result of incremental progress, so take pride in each step you take toward your goals.
