Heidi Shahat, Channel & Alliance Manager, Huawei Cloud, on leadership, inclusion, and driving innovation in enterprise technology.
As part of Techitup Middle East’s International Women’s Day 2026 Leadership Series, we spotlight women leaders shaping the future of technology across the region. In this feature, Heidi Shahat shares her professional journey, leadership insights, and advice for women in tech.
We are entering a defining AI-driven era. How is AI changing leadership expectations for women in tech?
Heidi Shahat: AI is accelerating the demand for leaders who can bridge technology and business strategy. For women in tech, expectations now go beyond representation — they include driving innovation, shaping ethical AI adoption, influencing high-stakes decisions, and leading transformation at scale.
The focus is no longer just participation, but impact and strategic authority.
What is one structural barrier that still needs to change for women to scale into more C-level and board positions in tech?
Heidi Shahat: Early access to P&L responsibility. Many women are guided into support roles instead of revenue-driving positions — yet most executive and board appointments are based on proven experience managing revenue, profit, and business growth. Mentorship is important but access exposure to revenue driven roles is equally important.
Was there a defining moment in your career that changed your trajectory?
Heidi Shahat: Yes, when I transitioned from digital communications to channel revenue ownership. Moving from marketing impact to measurable commercial growth changed how I positioned myself as a business leader.
What leadership trait has helped you the most in navigating the tech industry?
Heidi Shahat: Strategic relationship-building.
In tech, ecosystems matter — partners, internal teams, distributors. My ability to align stakeholders around growth has been critical.
Lastly, what practical advice would you give young women entering the AI and digital economy today?
Heidi Shahat: Don’t wait to feel fully ready. Step into stretch roles early, build technical fluency, and make your voice visible in high-impact conversations.
Confidence grows from action — not perfection.
