Women in Tech

IWD 2026 Leadership Series: Gada Lopez | NTT DATA

We are entering a defining AI-driven era. How is AI changing leadership expectations for women in tech?

Gada Lopez: AI is reshaping leadership by placing greater emphasis on strategic thinking, ethical responsibility, and inclusive innovation. For women in tech, this presents an opportunity to bring diverse perspectives to how AI is designed and applied.

Leadership today is not only about technology expertise but also about ensuring that innovation is responsible and impactful.

What is one structural barrier that still needs to change for women to scale into more C-level and board positions in tech?

Gada Lopez: Progression to C-level and board positions often requires exposure to high impact initiatives and strategic partnerships. Organizations need to intentionally create opportunities that give women greater visibility, access to influential networks, and involvement in major business decisions, enabling them to build the relationships and experience required for senior leadership.

Was there a defining moment in your career that changed your trajectory?

Gada Lopez: A defining moment in my career was realizing that growth often happens when you step outside your comfort zone. Taking on roles that involved expanding into new regions, managing larger strategic accounts, and leading broader responsibilities pushed me to move beyond operational execution and develop a more strategic leadership perspective.

What leadership trait has helped you the most in navigating the tech industry?

Gada Lopez: Resilience has been essential. The technology landscape evolves rapidly, and the ability to adapt, stay focused, and keep learning is critical.

Combined with curiosity and openness to new ideas, it allows leaders to navigate change and drive innovation effectively.

Lastly, what practical advice would you give young women entering the AI and digital economy today?

Gada Lopez: Stay curious, build confidence in your voice, and don’t hesitate to take on challenging opportunities. The AI and digital economy need diverse perspectives, and women have an important role in shaping the future of technology.

Surround yourself with mentors and networks that support your growth and ambition.
